Professor Nick Wareham

Chair

Nick is Director of the MRC Epidemiology Unit and Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge. He studied Medicine and Epidemiology in London and Cambridge, and was a Harkness Fellow at Harvard. His research focuses on the causes of type 2 diabetes, exploring genetic, developmental, and behavioural risk factors, and developing strategies for early detection and prevention. He also serves as Honorary Consultant at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Tara Camm

Tara has held leadership roles with Plan International, the Wellcome Trust and Save the Children. She integrates her professional experience as a corporate and non-profit lawyer into her leadership and helps organisations navigate ethics, legal and governance complexity. She is currently working as an independent consultant for social impact, public and commercial organisations, and is known for her focus on children’s rights, as well as transforming international non-profit organisations.

Eileen Milner

Eileen has had a significant career in public service, including as Chief Operating Officer of the Care Quality Commission and CEO and Director General in the Department for Education. She established the Bradford and District Children and Families Trust to take on the transformation of inadequate children's services. Eileen is also Chair of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, helping to bring a new children's hospital to the East of England.

Professor Alison Park

Alison is Deputy Executive Chair of the Economic and Social Research Council. After a career focused on leadership of large population surveys, she became Director of CLOSER, a UCL research collaboration focused on maximising the use, value and impact of longitudinal studies. She was awarded a CBE for services to social sciences in 2018 and is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Vivienne Parry

Vivienne is a writer and broadcaster. A scientist by training, she has a wide-ranging career in TV, radio and print, and was awarded an OBE for services to the public understanding of science. She helped set up the 100,000 Genomes Project and was its head of public engagement. Vivienne has been a board member of UK Research & Innovation and the MRC, and was Vice Chair of Council at UCL.

Dr Tim Peakman

Prior to retirement, Tim was Chief Clinical Operations Officer at Protas where he was responsible for the operational design and conduct of large-scale trials of new medicines. He was Chief Operating Officer at University of Leeds and Deputy Chief Executive at UK Biobank, helping to establish and run a study involving 500,000 participants. Tim holds an MBA and was awarded an OBE for services to medical sciences.

Nicola Perrin

Nicola is Chief Executive of the Association of Medical Research Charities. She has a background in policy, strategy, and engagement, and led the policy team at Wellcome. She has focused on responsible uses of data, including setting up the Understanding Patient Data initiative. Nicola is also on the Boards of Genomics England and UK Biobank and was awarded an MBE in New Year’s Honours 2020.

Dr Fiona Reddington

Fiona’s career has been dedicated to harnessing the power of health data to improve patient outcomes. Working across the NHS, UCL, NCRI and CRUK, she led portfolios in clinical trials, population research and prevention, and advanced data-sharing initiatives. As an Executive Director at Our Future Health, Fiona led the programme’s establishment and built strategic partnerships across Government, charities, and industry. She also serves on the Board of the MS Society.

Professor Russell Viner

Russell is the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Department for Education and a Professor in Adolescent Health at UCL. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was a member of SAGE (Scientific Advisory Group on Emergencies) and the WHO Technical Advisory Group on COVID-19 in Educational Settings. Russell was formerly President of the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health and was awarded a CBE in 2022 for services to child and adolescent health.
