About

Project Youth is a major new research study focused on understanding how young people grow and develop during adolescence — a period of significant physical, emotional and social change.

Although the UK is home to several world-leading population-based studies, there is a critical gap when it comes to large-scale studies focused on adolescence. This study is being established to fill this gap.

The study plans to recruit at least 100,000 young people aged 8 to 18 from across the UK. By following a diverse group of young people over time, it will generate data and insights into health, wellbeing and life experiences.

This will help build our understanding about young people’s lives as they go through their teenage years and become adults. We hope this will improve the health and wellbeing of future generations.

Funding

We are an independent charity organisation funded by the UK Research and Innovation Infrastructure Fund through the Medical Research Council.

Development of our name, brand and website

As part of our set-up, we are developing a new name for the study with an associated brand and identity. This website is a temporary solution for providing key information on the study while we complete that work.

We will launch a fully operational website showcasing our new name and brand in 2026.
